GramInn Charitable Trust, Mukkam Municipality and Karassery Grama Panchayat, together with Don Bosco College Mampetta, marked World Environment Day on 5 June 2026 with “Harithaabhamaakam: Haritha Senaykkoppam” under the global theme #NowForClimate. The programme celebrated and honoured 120 Haritha Karma (green taskforce) workers and municipal cleaning staff for their vital role in maintaining public cleanliness and protecting the local environment.
The ceremony was inaugurated by Ms. Malavika G. Nair, Assistant Collector of Kozhikode, who praised the collaborative effort and urged continued community action on climate issues. Mr. G. Abdul Akbar, President of Karassery Grama Panchayat, and Mr. Renish, Ward Councillor, highlighted the community’s responsibility to support frontline sanitation workers. Adv. K. P. Chandini, Chairperson of Mukkam Municipality, outlined recent municipal initiatives to strengthen waste management and public sanitation.
Ms. Reena Varghese, Director of GramInn Charitable Trust, reaffirmed the trust’s commitment to empowering local communities through environmental education and livelihood support. Fr. Martin Augustin ,the Manager of Don Bosco College, and Dr. Joby Abraham, Principal of Don Bosco College, thanked municipal partners and organisers for their sustained cooperation.
The programme featured the felicitation of Haritha Karma staff with gifts and tokens of appreciation, short cultural performances and community activities that created many memorable moments for participants and attendees. Haritha Karma Sena members expressed heartfelt gratitude: Mr. Prasad said, “We feel honoured and encouraged. Recognition like this motivates us to keep our neighbourhoods clean,” while Ms. Mini added, “We are grateful to GramInn organization and the partners for valuing our work and for supporting our well‑being.”
The event concluded with a community pledge to continue local climate action, strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and local bodies, and expand programmes that recognise and support the welfare of sanitation workers.
