Nourishing Hope – Graminn’s Food Drive For Wayanad

On 29th March 2026, GramInn launched a vital Food Drive specifically targeting the tribal and marginalized populations of Arinchermala and the 15th Ward of Panamaram Panchayat. Recognising the compounding crises of a severe drought and a total lack of employment opportunities in these areas, the initiative focused on families in palliative care and elderly citizens living in isolation.

Led by Director Ms. Reena Varghese and Field Coordinator Mr. Biju TT, a team of dedicated volunteers navigated the local terrain to reach 15 families identified as being in extreme need. For these households, the struggle for survival is currently twofold: they are grappling with zero income due to the environmental climate, while their remaining resources are consumed by mounting medical expenses.

The scenes on the ground in Panamaram were a stark reminder of the vulnerability of the region’s elders. Many beneficiaries are above 60 years old, living in homes without children or a traditional support system nearby. During the distribution, the team observed that these families often face the heart-breaking choice between purchasing life-saving medication or a basic meal.

Supported by various donors, GramInn provided essential food kits to ensure these 15 families have consistent nutrition during these lean months. This drive served as more than just a delivery of supplies; it was a gesture of solidarity, proving that even in the face of drought and hardship, the vulnerable residents of Arinchermala are not forgotten. Spreading Smiles of hope!
