In a landmark collaboration for social welfare, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Wayanad, Panamaram Grama Panchayat, and GramInn Wayanad officially launched Project HEAL (Holistic Empowerment through Accessible-Local Care) on March 8, 2026. This ambitious 18-month initiative aims to provide comprehensive Mental healthcare and legal support to marginalized communities across all 24 wards of the panchayat.
The inaugural ceremony was led by Mr. Ayyoobkhan E, District & Sessions Judge, who emphasized that true empowerment stems from making essential services accessible at the doorstep. The official project logo was unveiled by Panchayat President Ms. Lakshmi Alakkamuttam, marking a new chapter in local governance and care. Keynote speaker Mr. Arun K. Pavithran IPS, District Police Chief, highlighted the necessity of community-police synergy in safeguarding vulnerable populations.
A poignant highlight of the event was the “Woman Icon of Panamaram” awards. In honour of International Women’s Day, 48 remarkable women—two from each ward—were recognized for their selfless contributions to community development. These icons represent the backbone of the panchayat’s progress, proving that local leadership is vital for sustainable change.
The project, presided over by GramInn Director Ms. Reena Varghese, will focus on 8 pillars like Elder Care and Well-being, Counselling, Tribal Mental Welfare etc. As HEAL unfolds over the next year and a half, it promises to bridge the communication and service gaps, ensuring that the residents of Panamaram remain active, protected, and deeply connected to their community.
