Vaikunnera Varthamanam: Elders Illuminate Koolivayal with Tales of Resilience and Joy

The Koolivayal community came alive with the “Vaikunnera Varthamanam” event, where revered elders shared captivating stories of joy, resilience, and triumphs over adversity. Held on the evening of May 3, the gathering drew families, youth, and local leaders, fostering intergenerational bonds in the spirit of GramInn’s community welfare initiatives.

Presided over by Mr. Jose Nilambanattu, Vice Chairperson of Grama Panchayat Panamaram, the event was animated with infectious energy by Shifa and Shedha Volunteers from GEMS College, Malappuram. These young enthusiasts facilitated interactive sessions, encouraging elders to recount personal journeys—from overcoming hardships in tribal life to celebrating family milestones—leaving attendees inspired and reflective.
The evening began with a warm welcome and orientation by Reena Varghese, Director of GramInn, who highlighted the event’s role in preserving oral histories and promoting mental wellness among seniors. “Our elders are the living libraries of our culture,” she remarked. “Events like this bridge generations, reminding us that resilience is our shared heritage.”

Over 30 participants engaged in the two-hour program, which included storytelling circles, Q&A segments, and a cultural tea session. Volunteers from GEMS College not only moderated but also documented stories for GramInn’s upcoming digital archive on community narratives, amplifying voices from Wayanad’s marginalized groups.

GramInn, dedicated to mental health, education, and tribal welfare, organizes such platforms to combat elder isolation and empower youth through real-life mentorship. Mr. Nilambanattu praised the initiative: “This is more than an event—it’s a beacon for Panamaram’s future.”

The success of Vaikunnera Varthamanam underscores GramInn’s commitment to holistic community development. Future events will expand to include youth-led workshops inspired by these elder tales.
