Janamaithri Excise Squad Mananthavady and GramInn Wayanad, in collaboration with Step Up International Trust, hosted EduFair 2K26 on 15th August— an initiative aimed at guiding +2 pass tribal and economically disadvantaged students toward higher education opportunities. The fair drew 130 motivated students from across the region, each seeking direction on course selection, scholarships, and accommodation options.
The event opened with words of encouragement from Mr. Jacob Sebastian, Chairperson of Mananthavady Municipality, who praised the collaborative effort to make education accessible to marginalized communities. Mr. Satheesh Kumar P K, Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Wayanad, emphasized the role of community partnerships in bridging educational gaps and urged stakeholders to continue supporting youth development initiatives.
Representatives from the excise department and partner organisations participated actively throughout the day. Mr. Sajith Chandran, Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Wayanad, engaged with students about government schemes and support systems. Ms. Reena Varghese, Director of GramInn Wayanad, and Ms. Anitha Indra Bhai, Director of Step Up International Trust, coordinated counselling sessions and helped students identify suitable academic streams. Adv. Sindhu, Deputy Chairperson of Mananthavady Municipality, also attended and offered practical guidance on accessing local resources.
Counselling booths and admission desks from multiple institutions provided one-on-one support, helping students complete applications and understand financial aid options. Organisers arranged information on free education and hostel facilities for eligible candidates, removing two of the most common barriers to continued study — cost and accommodation.
