On 28th March 2026, GramInn Non-Profit Charitable Trust organized a workshop on “Exploring Mental Health Assessment Tools” with the objective of enhancing participant’s knowledge and skills in mental health assessment and counselling practices.
The session commenced at 11 am with a warm welcome by Ms. Reena Varghese, Director of GramInn, who greeted the resource person and participants. She briefly highlighted the importance of mental health assessment in identifying and addressing psychological concerns.
A total of 10 participants attended the workshop. The session was facilitated by Ms. Amrutha R., Psychiatric Social Worker from the Tribal Mental Health Project, IMHANS. She led an engaging and informative session focusing on key components of mental health evaluation.
During the workshop, the resource person explained essential concepts such as Case History taking and Mental Status Examination (MSE). She also introduced various standardized mental health assessment tools, including: PHQ-9 (for depression), GAD-7 (for anxiety), PSQI (for sleep quality), AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test- both interview and self-report versions), EPDS (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale), SPQ-20 and OCI-R.
She elaborated on how these tools are used to assess the intensity, severity and overall mental health status of individuals through structured scoring systems.
The session was highly informative and practical, enabling participants to better understand the application of these tools in counselling settings and in the early identification of mental health problems.
The programme concluded at 3pm with certificate distribution to participants. A memento was presented to the resource person as a token of appreciation and gratitude.
